Kings sign Justin Williams to 10-day contract

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed center Justin Williams to a 10-day contract. Williams takes the roster spot which was created after the previous 10-day contract of guard/forward Bobby Jones expired on Friday morning. 
 
Williams (6-10, 260, Wyoming) has averaged 3.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 48 career games (one start) with the Sacramento Kings.
 
Jones scored two points, one rebound and a steal in limited minutes during his three games with the Rockets.
 

Report: Theus fines Artest for comments

The Sacramento Bee (Sam Amick) reports: Kings coach Reggie Theus fined small forward Ron Artest $5,000 for comments he made after Sunday’s win over Miami, according to a source close to the team. On Sunday, Artest questioned Theus for how he coached the Kings’ loss at Miami last Tuesday, wondered if the coaching staff shared his desire to make the playoffs.

Kings waive Tyronn Lue

The Sacramento Kings today requested waivers on guard Tyronn Lue, according to Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.
 
Since coming over in the February 16th trade with guard Anthony Johnson, centers Sheldon Williams and Lorenzen Wright, and a 2008 second-round draft choice from Atlanta, Lue has not played for the Kings, missing six games with a left calf strain. Lue averaged 6.8 ppg (.439 FG%, .435 3pt%, .857 FT%), 1.2 rpg, 1.8 apg, and 17.1 mpg in 33 games (started 3) for the Hawks this season.
 
The Kings’ updated roster now stands at 14 players.

Gerald Wallace: post-concussion symptoms

Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace developed post-concussion symptoms over the weekend that included headaches, drowsiness and soreness of the neck and jaw, according to Bobcats team physicians Dr. Glenn Perry and Dr. Joe Garcia.
Wallace is scheduled to see Charlotte-based neurologist Dr. Jerry Petty later this week, where he will go through a series of neural tests. Following the evaluation and based off the recommendation by Dr. Petty and team doctors, a timetable will be determined for his return. At this point, no timetable has been set.
Wallace suffered a Grade 3 concussion on Feb. 22 against the Sacramento Kings. Further tests at Presbyterian Hospital later that night revealed no fractures and no bleeding. The injury occurred with 9:54 left in the third quarter after an inadvertent elbow by Kings forward Mikki Moore. Wallace was immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation where he received a CAT-Scan and other on-site tests. He was later released and returned home.

Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace suffered a Grade 3 concussion tonight versus the Sacramento Kings and is experiencing a slight case of amnesia. Further tests at Presbyterian Hospital revealed no fractures and no bleeding.
The injury occurred with 9:54 left in the third quarter after an inadvertent elbow by Kings forward Mikki Moore.  Wallace was immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation where he received a CAT-Scan and other test. He has been released and is now home resting. He will not accompany the team at Washington tomorrow. No timetable has been set for his return.
Bobcats Sports & Entertainment owns and operates the Charlotte Bobcats (NBA) and operates the widely-acclaimed Charlotte Bobcats Arena, which opened in the fall of 2005.

Ron Artest may stay

New York Newsday (Ken Berger) reports: So much for the Spurs’ interest in Ron Artest, which created some buzz this afternoon but fizzled with the Thomas deal. Artest had been rumored to be going to San Antonio for Elson and Barry. No dice. Other than that, a person close to Artest says things are quiet. Clearly, though, he has to get out of Sacramento and the Kings have to get him out of there.

Nuggets likely keeping Linas Kleiza

The Rocky Mountain News (Chris Tomasson) reports: With the NBA trade deadline at 1 p.m. MST Thursday, Nuggets coach George Karl called it a “1 percent chance” Kleiza will be moved. Karl said he’s “betting” against the Nuggets making any trade.
Kleiza, who returned after being hurt in the first half Tuesday against Boston and is expected to play Friday at Chicago, has been a possibility to be dealt with forward Eduardo Najera to Sacramento for forward Ron Artest.

Report: Hawks may get Mike Bibby

The Sacramento Bee (Martin McNeal) reports: The Kings have reached an agreement in principle to send veteran guard Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and forwards Lorenzen Wright and Shelden Williams, sources told The Bee on Saturday. The deal is contingent upon league approval that could come as early as today. According to sources who did not want to be identified because of ongoing trade discussions, there is a 1 p.m. conference call scheduled between the two teams and league officials.

Kings trade Mike Bibby to Hawks

The Sacramento Kings today acquired forwards Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright, guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and a 2008 second round draft pick from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for veteran guard Mike Bibby, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. In a related move, the Kings requested waivers on forward Justin Williams and guard Dahntay Jones.
“Today we acquired Shelden Wiliams, Lorenzen Wright, Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue,†explained Petrie. “We’re excited about adding another young frontcourt player who was the fifth pick of the 2006 draft in Williams, along with some experienced veterans to the team. We’re looking forward to seeing how they integrate in with the rest of our roster.
“I want to thank Mike for his terrific all around play. He’s had a great run here as a King and has participated in and contributed to some great moments on the court and I wish him all the best.â€

Rockets-Kings team connections

Rockets Head Coach Rick Adelman stands as the winningest coach in Kings history, recording a 395-229 (.633) mark in eight seasons (1998-2006) as head coach of Sacramento.
Elston Turner also spent six seasons as an assistant coach on Adelman’s staff in Sacramento.
T.R. Dunn joined the Rockets coaching staff after three campaigns as an assistant coach for the Kings.
Rockets Assistant Coach R.J. Adelman served five years as a scout for Sacramento, including the final three seasons as assistant video coordinator.
Houston forward Chuck Hayes, who was born in San Leandro, California, attended Modesto Christian High School.
In his solo season with the Kings (2005-06), Rockets guard/forward Bonzi Wells averaged 13.6 points, 2.8 assists and a career-high 7.7 rebounds in 52 games (41 starts).
Maloof Companies previously owned the Rockets from 1979-82.
Kings President John Thomas is a former Senior Executive Vice President with the Rockets.
Sacramento forward Kenny Thomas was drafted by Houston in the first round (22nd overall) of the 1999 NBA Draft, playing the next three-and-a-half seasons with the Rockets.
